telc German B1·B2 Nursing is a graded German examination for nursing staff at CEFR levels B1 and B2. It is aimed at individuals who wish to demonstrate their job-related language proficiency in the nursing sector. The examination assesses listening, reading, writing and speaking skills using typical situations from everyday nursing practice, such as conversations with patients, relatives and colleagues, care documentation, reports, subject-specific texts and oral communication within a team. As this is a graded examination, participants will receive a certificate at either level B1 or B2, depending on their performance. It is not possible to retake individual parts of the examination – if a retake is required, the entire examination must be sat again.
The examination consists of a written and an oral part. Written: Listening: approx. 25 mins; Reading/language components: approx. 60 mins; Writing: approx. 30 mins. Oral: approx. 16 mins plus 20 mins’ preparation, usually as a pair examination. The examination assesses work-related situations from everyday nursing practice.
The examination is graded on a scale: depending on the partial results, a certificate at B1 or B2 level will be issued. The assessment covers listening, reading, language components, writing and speaking. To obtain a certificate, a minimum of B1 must be achieved in the speaking component; for B2, the speaking component must be B2 and, in addition, at least one written component must be B2.
Assessment by telc: The written answer sheets are processed centrally, with written and oral performance assessed according to telc’s assessment criteria. Depending on the result, candidates will receive either the telc German B1 Care Certificate or the telc German B2 Care Certificate – or no certificate at all if the minimum requirements have not been met.
Graded comprehensive examination at levels B1 and B2. Only the comprehensive examination can be booked – individual examination components (written only or oral only) cannot be booked. The examination takes place on-site in Gießen.
